Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto Tjahyono has expressed his readiness to collaborate with the IPB University Alumni Association (HA IPB) to develop water sports facilities in Bekasi City.
According to Tri, the initiative aligns with the city government’s ongoing river management program, which aims to optimize Bekasi’s abundant water resources.
“Yes, water sports — we’re actively working on making that a reality,” Tri said on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Bekasi Mayor’s Office. He explained that promoting water-based recreation is important not only to encourage a healthier, more active lifestyle among residents but also to make use of the city’s natural waterways.
One key project is the Cikeas River revitalization, which is currently underway and has the potential to evolve into a new tourist attraction. Tri is confident that with effective river management, Bekasi could soon establish itself as a destination for eco-friendly water sports and community recreation.
Beyond water activities, the Bekasi City Government is also focusing on urban land development to enhance public spaces and improve residents’ quality of life. “We’re upgrading several city parks, including those around Duta Lake and Villa Indah Permai Lake,” Tri added.
This integrated approach, he said, underscores the need for strong collaboration between the city government and HA IPB, particularly in environmental planning and project implementation. “We need skilled, experienced hands — especially in environmental management and related fields,” Tri noted.
Tri also hopes the alumni association can support the city’s efforts to tackle its waste management challenges, particularly addressing waste from upstream to downstream.
Dewi Astianti, Head of the Waste Reduction and Hazardous Waste Management (PSPLB3) Division, emphasized that waste management involves numerous steps and requires specialized knowledge. “We believe our colleagues from IPB are experts in this field,” she said.
The meeting with Mayor Tri followed a recent HA IPB Bekasi board meeting, where alumni finalized their 2025 work program. “We presented the program to the Mayor, and it received a very positive response,” said Ferry Cahyadi Putra, Chair of HA IPB Bekasi City.
The alumni delegation was welcomed by city officials, including Bilang Nauli Harahap, Acting Head of the Cooperation Division, and Kiswatiningsih, Secretary of the Environmental Agency.
